Darryl Payne is the owner and founder of Pawfection Dog Training LLC in Orlando. Founded in the USA in 2009, he currently trains over 200 dogs per week between in-home behavioral appointments, group obedience training with agility, search, therapy and service work.
Darryl has held local government contracts with the City of Winter Springs and the City of Oviedo to provide training to the general public since 2011.
He is a former Police K9 handler and supervisor, bomb detection and counter-terrorist search specialist, international lecturer on working dogs, K9 tactical advisor to government and British Royalty, court expert witness, and a certificated and qualified pet dog behavioral therapist, having trained over 40,000 pet and police dogs on two continents.
Darryl has worked and supervised law enforcement dogs through several detection disciplines including general patrol and human scent detection, bomb and narcotics detection, weapon recovery, human remains detection and SWAT team K9 support.
He is a professional dog handler and trainer certified in both the UK and USA and has personally trained over 40,000 working and pet dogs in a 30-year canine career. He was also formerly an international lecturer for the National Tactical Officers (SWAT) Association.
Previously the Metropolitan Police (Scotland Yard) tactical canine support advisor for London, Darryl had responsibility for the welfare, efficiency and deployment of over 300 general purpose police dogs in Britain's capital, 100 drugs detection dogs and 90 explosive detection support dogs in the largest dedicated explosives detection unit in the world.
As part of his role as a police canine supervisor he was responsible for the investigation of police dog bites to ascertain and ensure their legality and proportionality, and was regularly called to court to give expert testimony. He was the liaison to local government in respect of dangerous dog law and the implementation of dog legislation by law enforcement.
As a private dog trainer and dog behavioral therapist he is often asked for expert opinion as to the likely causes of dog bite incidents inside and outside of owners' homes, and has rehabilitated several hundred pet dogs exhibiting aggressive tendencies.
Darryl is an accredited international lecturer on the tactical use of canine for law enforcement, dog law, pet dog behavior, and the socialization and development of puppies both as pets and potential working dogs. He is also one of the most experienced and successful trainers in the world in dealing with severe aggression related issues.
Darryl is a professional lecturer on matters of dog safety for children and the promotion of responsible dog ownership and dangerous dog control issues.
He has competed and judged professionally in police and civilian dog trials, agility and obedience, and is a recognized expert witness for court.
Darryl has been called upon for expert opinion by Fox TV and CBS and is a lecturer for the Central Florida Home and Garden Show, Orlando. He is the dog training consultant for Fox 35 Orlando and iHeart Radio 104.1 (the Philips Phile and the Jim Colbert Show), where he has had a regular phone-in advice segment for dog behavior issues for over 12 years.
Darryl is the dog training and behavior consultant for the City of Winter Springs and City of Oviedo, as well as numerous veterinary practices.
He is qualified to train search and rescue dogs in ground and air scent disciplines, narcotic detection dogs and termite detection dogs, as well as pet dogs in obedience, agility, family protection and service dogs for the handicapped. He is a certified AKC CGC trainer and assessor.
